"Blue screen of death" after VirtualBox installation

I've been using VirtualBox for quite a long time without any problems, but during last month I experience regular crashes of my host OS (Windows Vista). Downgrading from version 3.0.4 to 2.2.4 didn't help. The only way to get rid of "blue screens" is to uninstall VirtualBox. But after reinstallation, my host system resumes to crash every 2-3 hours. No errors, no warnings, just "blue screen" oll of a sudden. Even without running any guest OS.

Any more information you can give us? A shot of the BSOD will help (you can disable automatic restart in System Properties, use Google if you can't find it). Any security programs running that might cause things like these (check google for known causes with the software)?

The BSOD must display some sort of message. Anything updated lately? patches, antivirus, etc...

Please open a ticket on our bug tracker and attach the minidump. That's the only way to deal with such problems.

You can also try to see if not installing USB & host interface networking improves the situation for you. (reinstall and deselect both options)

Installing VirtualBox without USB and networking support didn't help. But after downgrading further to version 2.2.0 everything seems to be OK now.

Then it must be some VM setting...

Actually, after downgrading to version 2.2.0 a had to delete folder .VirtualBox from my system profile. Otherwise my guest OS couldn't start and I got VirtualBox message complaining about some version error. Just for experimental sake I deleted folder .VirtualBox once again and upgraded VirtualBox to the last version 3.0.4. And (what a miracle!) my host OS has already been working for about 4 hours without BSOD.
