I upgraded VBox to 3.0.4 on a Vista 64 host (French).
Since then, when trying to create a new virtual disk or deleting an existing one, I get the message "Could not save the settings file 'C:\Users\ddministrator\.VirtualBox\VirutalBox.xml' (VERR_ACCESS_DENIED)"
I am logged as administrator and activated the administrator rights on the host
When I try to edit and save that file with an editor, it says it is in use by another process, even when no Virtual Machine is executing
[Solved] Get an error "Could not save the settings file"

Re: Get an error "Could not save the settings file"
While VBox is active it will remain in use. Other users usually don't have access rights to the xml files under administrator.

Re: Get an error "Could not save the settings file"
Thanks for your quick answer.
However, I do not fully understand what you mean.
I stopped all instance of VirtualBox (Task manager does not show any one running) and I still cannot create a new Virtual Disk

Login as administrator and try again.

Re: Get an error "Could not save the settings file"
If you still get the same error, use Process Explorer to discover which process is holding the file. A reboot is advised first, that will certainly close all handles to the file.

Re: Get an error "Could not save the settings file"
OK. Thanks... A reboot solved the problem. Maybe the upgrade process should terminate by saying "Must reboot the machine"
