Screen Resolution size widescreen (Host Vista Guest WinXP)
Hi,
I am running Windows XP on a Windows Vista 64. I installed the guest additions and the only screen resolution that I can select now is 800x600. I am running it on a laptop which is widescreen (1366 x 768). If I remove the guest additions I have more screen resolutions, but all are for 4:3 (square monitors). Is there a way to set the resolution at 1366 x 768. I have tried full screen but it is a square resolution with two black sides, I guess is 1024 x 768.
Any ideas how can I set the resolution at 1366 x 768, to fit the widescreen?
Thanks

You use the mouse to click + drag the window or the key combo of host + F for full screen. If these do not work then the guest additions are not installed properly and you need to do them again. You may need to click on unmount the CD/DVD first then click on install guest additions for them to actually install.

When I install the guest additions it says that the video driver is not compatible with winxp. Is it true or it is a mistake in my laptop?

Huh... Only time I have seen that is when the OP was using a stripped down version of XP.
Is this the full version that you are/have installed?

It is full xp home edition. The Virtualbox graphic adapter and the mouse say that are not compatible, but the mouse works fine. I don't know what I should do.

When you install the guest additions and you get this message can you proceed further or does it stop there?
For you to be able to get better resolution and color you must install the guest additions. Go ahead and complete the install and see if you can use the mouse and click drag the screen to a better size. Don't forget to reboot the guest after you have installed the guest additions.

I can continue if I click "Continue anyway". After restart, the video has 640x480 or 800x600, nothing else. Mouse works fine

What happens if you use the (host + F) to go into and out of full screen?
host = right ctrl
host = right ctrl

in full screen, winxp is in the center of the screen at the resolution that I set. For example 800x600, around that it is black
In windowed mode. it is in the center with light gray around winxp

This indicates one of two things.
First look at the machine tab and see if the autoresize is gray. If it is then the guest additions did not install properly.
Try clicking on the device tab and then unmount CD/DVD, then click devices and install guest additions.
Secondly, If the auto resize is not gray click it a few times to see that it turns blue indicating that it is activated and then try the (host + f)

No it didn't work. I tried to installed another VM, but again when I tried to install the guest additions there is the compatibility problem.
