Windows software not recignizing Win XP as Win XP

I am trying to install a peace of windows software in a virtual XP installation (host is Ubuntu). I keep getting a message from the software saying that I can only install it on a windows machine that is win 95 or newer.

The software I am trying to install is Called "TestCrafter" by Cambridge University. The box says it runs on Win 2000/XP (no Linux support :( )

I am confused because I thought that a virtual installation would be independent of Ubuntu (everything in the virtual machine would only see the virtual machin).

Help please...

Make a shortcut and set compatibility mode, that might work.

Thanks!

I tired it... it is strange, the selection under compatibility mode only lists windows 95, 98 / ME, NT 4.0 and 2000 and I am using XP Home. At any rate, I tried setting the compatibility mode for each of these and still got the same message.

Any other ideas?

There might be some other protection on the disc that is preventing a proper reading, or spits out this kind of error. Have you tried installing it in Wine on the Host?
If all fails, contact the supplier of the software and ask what is going on, why you can't even install it on a Windows VM.
