Hello everyone.
I've just installed solaris 10 on vbox 3.0.4 on ubuntu 9.4.
I've set the network device as bridged and I'm able to ping the host interface but I cannot ping the defaultrouter.
Host machine: 192.168.0.9
Virtual machine: 192.168.0.20
defaultrouter 192.168.0.1
Do I need to set the host machine to route the traffic. I was thinking that because the virtual interface is on the same subnet as the host that it might just work. Perhaps I should use Nat instead of bridged?
Can someone point me towards a network setup guide.
Many thanks for you help.

Re: cannot ping the router.
Check the VM settings. You have to select the right bridged interface. It won't do much good if you select your wired NIC when you connect to the router through wireless. The first test you do, is ping the Host first. If you can't ping that, you don't have any connectivity.
If you use NAT, it doesn't matter how you connect to the internet (wired or wireless), it will be picked up automatically. However, the VM won't be easily accessible from the outside.

Re: cannot ping the router.
I double checked the interface which is eth0 which is hard wired to the router.
Both the guest and the host are able to ping each other but only the host is able to ping the router.
I was wondering if the host needs to be configured as a router? I thought it wouldn't matter since they were both on the same subnet.
Nat didn't seem to work which is why I tried Bridged.
Any more suggestions welcome.

Re: cannot ping the router. -SOLVED
Silly me. I've just added the mac address to the router and now it 'works.
Thanks everyone.
