I'm running ubuntu 9.04 using virtualbox ose 2.1.4 and i have XP pro setup on a VM. I am trying to setup a shared folder so I can drop in installation files to the VM, but I can't seem to get anything to work

I have added the folder (named XP) to the shared folders permanent list in virtualbox. I installed the guest additions through synaptic, but do i have to do it through virtualbox? I also tried typing "net use t:\\jack\XP" in windows run and that didn't work. What am i doing wrong?
~Thanks

You setup the share in the VBox program under shared folders. Then in XP open a command window and type the following:
Replace the share name with the name you gave the share in the settings of VBox. The -p at then end makes it persistent.
(Notice the space after x: and before the \\)
If you want to do a network share you can do that as well but you would need to use Bridged mode and what you have will work if you put a space in as indicated above.

Also, you need the Guest Additions. You installed the GA for the Host OS if you would run that inside a VM, so remove those packages, it won't do you any good. You can grab the GA ISO from
http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox, grab the version of the GA that is the same as the VB version you're running. Load the ISO in the media manager and mount it in the Guest. Install the GA, reboot the VM and you can use the command Perry noted.
