Windows 2000 guest networking with windows vista host

Post by bthomson »

I just need to know what is required to get a windows 2000 guest OS to network with a Windows Vista host. Since I am new to using Virtual Box (First time), step by step instructions would help a lot. I currently have the Windows 2000 guest working, just need to get the two to recognize each other.

Set a virtual NIC and attach it to Host-Only. Now in the VB general settings, enable the configuration for that interface and it's DHCP server. Fill in a range that you think will suffice, if it's not filled in automatically (keep the range the same as the actual IP of the Host side, default 192.168.56.1).

On Vista, set the Host-Only network to allow/enable everything in the Network Center. That should make it visible for 2000. After you booted the VM, you should be able to access the Host from the Guest using either the computer name, or it's IP address (default 192.168.56.1) and the Guest from the Host (check it's IP using the command prompt ipconfig).
