Installing windows 3.1 recieveing error screens included

Post by tuffguy45 »

I have windows for workgroups 3.11 that I'm trying to install as a VM, I see plenty of videos on youtube with people doing it but for some reason I am unable to. I select DOS as the type of OS when creating a new VM and I've tried using DOS 7.1, 6.22 and most recently DOS 5.0. All more or less work the same, I'm able to get through the part where it copies setup files but when it actually comes to set up the OS I get the following errors

I'm installing via the 7 floppies that it comes with fresh out of box this is a brand new copy someone got for me, it was shrink wrapped and everything when I got it so there's no way its a disk fidelity issue. I'm using a usb floppy drive hooked into my Sager 9262 laptop with a 3.0ghz Q965 Core 2 Quad, 4gigs of 800mhz ram, and 2 9800m gtx gpu with 3 320gb 7200rpm hard discs in raid 5 running windows 64bit ultimate. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I apologize, my usual message board doesn't have all the nifty features this site does, you'll have to right click them and say view image, I'll also try a few more methods/attach them here.

EDIT: Can't Attach, too big (128kb limit seems a bit small to me...)

Update:

I installed Vmware workstation and was able to install DOS 7.10 and then windows 3.1 on top of it with no problem at all. There must be something about the way virtualbox virtualizes the hardware that the windows 3.1 installer does not like. Any idea what the problem could be? Also, is it possible to either

A) Export my vmware appliance and then inmport it to vmware

or

B) Export my virtualbox appliances and then import them into vmware

I'd prefer A as it's certainly cheaper.

What options have you set for the VM? vt-x enabled? disable vt-x.

It was enabled, I'll try again later to see if it makes a difference I want to think I already tried that but, I'll try it for sure anyway. Thanks!
