rdesktop and <ctrl><alt><del> scares me

Hi All,
host: CentOS 5.3
guest: Windows Server 2008
vm: VBox 3.0.4
rdesktop-1.6.0-0.1.el5.rf
I am using "rdesktop" to administer a headless Windows 2008 server. To log into the server, I have to press <ctrl><alt><del> (<ctrl><alt><end> does not work). It works. But it scares me h--- out of me because the first time rdesktop is not in focus, I will be rebooting an active, very much critical server. One goof and I am going to be in real trouble! Does anyone know a way around this? A pop up to send <ctrl><alt><del>? Anything?
Many thanks,
-T

Are you actually doing this from the server/Host?
What about from a workstation?

Yes, I am doing it from the host server. All the rest of the computers at the customers site are being used. (Making money to pay my bills, no dought.) The guest is a Terminal Server and required a lot of fussing. Also, I am communicating with VRDP server in Virtual Box, not a Terminal Services session on the guest.
What about from a workstation?
That is much easier. From M$ Windows, with MSTSC, all I have to do is <ctrl><alt><end>. Much safer! But, I typically do not have access to a workstation.
My Xfce Launcher rdesktop run string:
Code: Select all
bash -c "rdesktop -0 -g 1024x768 -k en-us -u foo\\\\`whoami` -a 16 127.0.0.1:xxxxx"

Sorry to say I don't have an immediate fix to your problem. I too have been thrown into a situation where I had to work via the actual server/host. Very dangerous. I finally started taking my laptop with me and found a connection that I could plug into. Not perfect but it kept me off the server. I will investigate it more for you since as I said I worked out my original problem and kind of put it on the back burner.

Hi Perry,
I may be freaking for no reason. "Supposedly" (note the "weasel" word) <ctrl><alt><del> only is active from the console. And to get "rdesktop" to work, you have to be in X11 (Xfce 4.4.2 in my case). "Supposedly" (weasel word again) X11 is immune to <ctrl><alt><del>.
Thank you for reading and commenting on my post!

X11 doesn't know what ctrl-alt-del is.
Anyway, if you want to disable the "three finger salut" edit /etc/inittab and comment that line. After that issue a "init q". This disables ctrl-alt-del even in the [text] console.
