[Solved] Sharing a folder.
Ok this one has probely been answered already, but after searching around I still can't quite nail down the solution to this one.
Ok i'm running virtualbox on my windows xp machine and on virtualbox i am running windows server 2003. I want to set up a shared folder so i can just access files easier.
Here is what i am doing:
1. In virtual machine settings i add a shared folder called virtualshare on one of my drives
2. i check to see that it is there.. in the settings window (yep... there it is!)
3. In windows server 2003 i log in as admin and try and map the drive as \\vboxsvr\virtualshare
4. I get an error message saying "this drive could not be mapped as no network was found"....
Ive had this before and it annoyed me... anyone please...!!

Re: Sharing a folder.
Open a command window and type the following on the guest:
It will then show up as a drive X
Code: Select all
net use x: \\vboxsvr\virtualshare -p-

Anyone with any idea how to solve this please?
Re: Sharing a folder.
Make some screen shots of the shared folder for the VM inside VBox GUI setup.

Like this?? i can't screen shot inside my VM though.. but after when i run the machine and follow the steps to set up it throws me the error.
Re: Sharing a folder.
Try a different name for the share like "virtshre". And adjust the net use for it.

Re: Sharing a folder.
I'll be honest I don't think renaming the share folder from "virtualshare" to "virtshre" will solve this one... I just tried and it failed again..vbox4me2 wrote:Try a different name for the share like "virtshre". And adjust the net use for it.
The network name apparently cannot be found.. anyone else please?
Re: Sharing a folder.
Firewall off ?
Otherwise make a screenshot of running the net use command and the result so we can see what you've typed.

Re: Sharing a folder.
The GA aren't installed properly. Are you 100% sure you got the installer? Unmount the current ISO/drive, then use the Devices menu to load the GA ISO. If you don't get an autorun, open My Computer and open the CD/DVD drive. There you run the generic installer (it detects which architecture you're running - 32 bit or 64 bit). You can pick the specific installer if you're certain which kind of architecture you're running.

Re: [Solved] Sharing a folder.
After installation of the GA, you MUST reboot. If you didn't do that before asking here, you could've saved us a lot of time and effort (and yourself too) if you rebooted first, then asked
