Will this work? vista(H)+ Millennium(G)

This is the situation, Lots of hardware currently a Dell 2.8gig; 1gig ram; good video. But my hardware is mix-match. What I need to do is this: access internet through ME for writing accounts, and print/process through vista for final out, then post to internet/client through ME again. I know it sounds like a pain in the a**, but MS in their infinite wisdom didn't provide support for my usb modem in vista and the mfr didn't either. Guess they thought if you could afford vista you can get some sort of high-speed. Best possible solution would be a vista driver for the BEST DATA 56k USBSL modem, but after a week of looking there is no hope there. I have downloaded VB 3.0.4 and tried a virtual machine (VISTA-H;ME-G) and love it, but now I need to connect it to the internet, and not sure what to do next. I really like this way of working and would be willing to do pro-bono PR work if I can ever get this.

I am also working on dual-boot situation with same systems, and even if that works I want to still use this method as it would be more efficient!

Thanks a lot in advance>>>>>>>3 people can keep a secret..... if two of them are dead! B.Franklin.

Did you think about USB yourself? VB can give some USB devices to the Guest to work with. USB modems are untested, but they might just work in your case. Open the VM settings while the VM is shut down, enable USB (don't enable USB 2.0, that doesn't work in ME) and add an empty filter. Don't fill in anything, just keep it empty. Now boot the VM and wait until it's all done loading. After that, plug in the modem and the modem should be sent to the VM directly. The Host should ask for a driver for the VBox USB proxy, just let it find it on it's own. You will get this only once. Now install the modem in the Guest.
If that doesn't work, you have to look for something else, like an ethernet modem or some sort.

COOL!! (sorry). Soooo...Once the ME detects and installs the modem it will be able to connect, so following an ulterior motive

I should be able to bridge from the vista to the ME and use the ME as a proxy server, right? If so, could I minimize the VM and install, or custom. Make a proxy server

Thanks a lot for the quick reply, if I'd have known...

You have to check internet for how to share internet from ME. Add a NIC to ME, put it in Host-Only mode and put an IP on it. Then on the Host, set the IP on the VB Host-Only adapter, with the gateway pointing to the VM. The rest is all in the howto for ME internet sharing.

All this time and such a simple solution

Sasquatch, dude, you ROCK. After I started moving on the VM and windows install it all kinda slapped me in the kisser. Thanks man. Easy solution 1, look for my blogs (to come) about this subject. Not so important, but would it be possible to get a win me host with vista guest, not that I'm not satisfied, just curious.....

Win me is not supported as a Host, see the VBox requirements.
