Right clicking on the VirtualBox-2.1.4-42893-Win_x86.msi and choosing the "uninstall" option does not unistall VB. No output is given. Uninstall does not work.

I've tried upgrading to 3.0.4 using VirtualBox-3.0.4-50677-Win.exe. Eventually the install fails leaving:

"Sun xVM VirtualBox Setup Wizard ended prematurely..."

Two things that you can do to see if you can get this installed:

1. Right click on the install program and then left click on run as admin.
or
2a If that fails you need to reinstall version 2.1.4 and select repair. (DO NOT reboot)
2b Run the version 2.1.4 install again and tell it to uninstall (DO NOT reboot)
2c Run the new Version 3.0.4 install and see if it works (This time reboot)

I do not have the option to select "Run As.." on VirtualBox-2.1.4-42893-Win_x86.msi. I double clicked to install and chose the "repair" option but that failed with a window message saying "Sun xVM VirtualBox Setup Wizard ended prematurely..."

I clicked finished on that window. I'm still stuck.

It is Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, that should get you to where you can install the new version. Please read it all.

Ok I'll give that a try tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

I finally got the "Windows Install Clean Up" tool installed. Took WAY TOO long to install. It was stuck on verifying disk space for over an hour. Anyway it installed and I was able to successfully removed 2.1.4 VB.

Now when I try to install 3.0.4 the install proceeds through copying the files and then rolls back the installation and ends on the "...Ended Prematurely..." screen. I've tried double clicking the installer to perform the install as well as trying to install with the "Run As..." unchecking the "Protect..." checkbox. I've tried the previous version 3.0.2 with both options mentioned above. I'm stuck.

Are there some install logs I can look at or turn on to look at. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had similar problem before on my Vista 64-bit. As far as I remember I had to download old version, reinstall it again and then correctly uninstall and install new version.

I've tried reinstalling 2.1.4 and it rolls back too. I can't install any version now. Still stuck.

Here is a log of the setup. I was only able to create for version 2.1.4 using msexec. Please see attached log output. I hope this helps someone figure out this issue.

I can't unzip the file, isn't it truncated?

I downloaded and unzipped the file using WinZip. Opened the file in my text editor. Works for me.

You don't by any chance have 2.1.4 installed as a byproduct of the Untangle 6.2.1 beta do you? I'm having the same issue with removing it, but it was installed by Untangle...

Nope. Haven't used Untangle...what is it?
