How to assign IP to VM

I have set up a new virtual machine and need to assign a particular IP to it. I am new to this and appreciate any help. Thanks

You assign an IP address the same way you always do.
Inside the guest. What are you using for the network connection? NAT, Bridged?

Right now it is set to NAT. I've never done this before. Can you list the steps please. Thanks

You will need to be in Bridged mode instead of NAT and for this you will need a router.
