Setting Display Resolution in Ubuntu ( guest )?

Hi!

I've been unsing VMware Player for a while, but when I found VirtualBox I immediately liked the interface much better. That you can create a VM inside VirtualBox and everything else you need is right there as opposed to VMware that has a pile of programs that does different things. Only the Player is free but you need another program to create the VM as the Player only runs it.

Anyway. I think I've found that the core of VMware is much better than VirtualBox. I never had any problems with memory in VMware, as to VirtualBox that always complain that it can't lock memory. And also - back to the subject - when changing the display resolution on Ubuntu in VMware I had all resolutions to choose from, but only two - 800 and 600 to choose from in VirtualBox. So this must be that VirtualBox can't copy my hardware to the guest as good as VMware Player can do.

Since I really like VirtualBox, and was hoping it could replace VMware Player, I was hoping there was a way to get all resolutions in Ubuntu through VirtualBox. The memory problem has an easy fix as 512MB is low - but then VMware doesn't have a problem with it...

Did you uninstall the VMwear additions before you started using the VM in VBox?
Also did you install the guest additions in VBox?
VBox works by using the guest additions to install the rest of the program that it uses to change resolution, share folders, and if you have the PUEL version to allow you to used USB devices in the guest.
Once the guest is running then click on the devices tab at the top then install guest additions.
Then install it using the Linux terminal in su

By the way VBox gives you the ability to go full screen and even seamless. I have Ubuntu 9.10 alpha running seamless on top of Vista so in a sense I have them both running together will all of the benefits of both in one place.
