Setting Display Resolution in Ubuntu ( guest )?

Hi!
I've been unsing VMware Player for a while, but when I found VirtualBox I immediately liked the interface much better. That you can create a VM inside VirtualBox and everything else you need is right there as opposed to VMware that has a pile of programs that does different things. Only the Player is free but you need another program to create the VM as the Player only runs it.
Anyway. I think I've found that the core of VMware is much better than VirtualBox. I never had any problems with memory in VMware, as to VirtualBox that always complain that it can't lock memory. And also - back to the subject - when changing the display resolution on Ubuntu in VMware I had all resolutions to choose from, but only two - 800 and 600 to choose from in VirtualBox. So this must be that VirtualBox can't copy my hardware to the guest as good as VMware Player can do.
Since I really like VirtualBox, and was hoping it could replace VMware Player, I was hoping there was a way to get all resolutions in Ubuntu through VirtualBox. The memory problem has an easy fix as 512MB is low - but then VMware doesn't have a problem with it...
