I'm using Virtualbox OSE with PCLOS, 4 GB RAM, nVidia 7300 video card, Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz.
I use Compiz, but the problem occurs whether I use Compiz or not.
I have XP installed as a guest with 128 MB assigned to video memory, and 1024 MB assigned to RAM and 3d enabled (although I've tried it without 3d enabled and I get the same problem). When I boot the Windows guest, everything works fine, except when I click on the Start button, the mouse pointer disappears. Note, I can still use the pointer, because it "shadows" the selections in the Start menu, but I can't see the pointer itself.
I'm not having this problem with floating the mouse pointer over text, it's just happening when I click on the Start button. In order to get the mouse back, I have to right-click on the desktop to bring it back. And when I disable mouse integration, the problem goes away entirely.
Is there any way to disable mouse integration from the start?
I don't want to use mouse integration, because it's annoying that I have to manually disable it every time I boot my Windows guest, but there's no way that I've found to automatically stop it before I boot my Windows guest.
Also, am I the only person out here that's having this problem? I extensively searched the Internet, and I can't find this exact issue anywhere.
Note, I'm having this problem with a pristine install of PCLOS, and every Windows guest that I run under Virtualbox. It's not the .vdi.

Are the guest additions installed?
