This is a really old thread. Never the less I don't have any problems with using more the 1 processor.
Perhaps you can provide some real information so we can try to help you with this.

Re: 2 or more cpu ubuntu crash
thanks for your reply in any case the guess vm will only crash if it was heavily used. in my case i ran an mmorpg game server inside the vm it will surely crash once the vm has serveral cpu threads going and the memory is nearly use up as well.Perryg wrote:This is a really old thread. -4096MB ram for the vm the host has 16GB for detail on host spec and vm spec please check my first few post in this thread.
it will crash when all cpu in the vm is loaded up to near or above 50% and memory usage is above 50% as well. if i keep all other settings and just drop the cpu to 1 the vm will run without any crash. it sure is very slow because the vm cpu is above 80% most of the time.

These kinds of problems that are reproducible should be reported to bugtracker. You will need to setup an account there as it is on a different system.
It would also help if you can post the ticket number here so other can see the progress, add information, or see the final results.

Re: 2 or more cpu ubuntu crash
with my host system being win7 initially i just assume SMP in my windows 7 is working properly because i was able to run multiple apps and see the cpu utilizations jumping up down on all cores by the task manager view. as i was browsing the net and stumbled across an article about how to limit or enable the CPU cores in win7. it prompted me to check that settings in my system. sure enough it list a goofy number just like 1 or something so weird. i just modified it to use 1cpu but 4 cores just as it is in my hardware CPU. this time i went back to my Ubuntu vm that is a known to crash the vm in less than a few minutes. i was able to run it for a few weeks now without any crash. as for the solution. just Google out the term enable CPU core in win 7 and the instruction will be among them. From this vbox hassle i think that with multi-cores system and win7 i will not just assume it is working just fine any more and i am not sure if ubuntu got the same issue as a host.
