I posted a message in topic "3.0.4 Breaks HOST network on Windows 7" saying I was having a similar problem as they were having but I was in WinXP SP3. Well got to "playing" since if I didn't get this fixed I was going to reload a system image. So to get rid of the Unknown Device in Network Adapters that you can't uninstall here's what I did.

1. Uninstall v3.0.4, reboot
2. Install v3.0.2
3. Open Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Network Adapters and right-click on the Unknown Device and select Update Driver.
4. Choose options: No not this time; Install from a list or specific location; Don't Search
5. Select Sun Microsystems from the left hand box and VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter from the right-hand box
6. When complete you should have a VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter #2 (or a larger number depending on your installation)
7. Right-click on the VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter #2 and select Uninstall and it should go well

Hope this helps someone!
