Hi,

Anyone can help me:

I have used VirtualBox 3.0.4 release, Host is Windows Vista 64bit, I tried to install a WindowsXP Pro 32bit with SCSI hard disk. However the XP installation cannot find SCSI hard disk.
I checked my successfully installed Linux, the SCSI is a LSI53C1030 SCSI disk, so I downloaded the SCSI driver, and still no luck on installation.

Any help is highly appreciated.

Install xp with ide only first, when up and running install the scsi drivers, then switch the VM settings for it.

To my understanding, one can install a SCSI driver to an existing SCSI disk; However my OS disk is an IDE disk and is the only disk in my WinXP, then could you tell me how to install a SCSI driver when my system has no SCSI disk yet?

Your not making any sense, why scsi your Guest if the Host doesn't have it?

Then my question is why I can scsi on linux side not on WindowsXP side?

Since the guest OS is running above Host OS, no matter what disk I/O guest OS will use, the Vbox will translate to host OS actual I/O; therefore the higher performced I/O by Guest OS the better, so the SCSI should be better than IDE. Am I right?

By the way I don't have IDE disk at all, mines are all SATA disks. But the vbox's default choice is IDE.

Then go the SATA way, much much faster then scsi. For sata its still the same answer, install os on ide first then convert to sata or scsi. Linux has alot by default onboard, windows doesn't which is why the ide-first workaround.

I am not sure about SATA is "much much faster" than SCSI; maybe I missed something, such as if the underline vbox has much better handling on SATA than SCSI. Can any vbox developer confirm that?
