ramifications of backing up with dump on running vm's?

Hi All,

I use "dump" (dump-0.4b41-2.fc6) to back up my host file system. My backups are triggered by crontab in the middle of the night.

What are the ramifications of backing up a running VM? Is there a need to shut down my VM's, run dump, and then fire back up my VM's? Be a lot easier if I could just back them up running.
