USB Printer Issues

Post by U2XS »

I have a Windows XP Host and a Windows XP guest OS. I would like to use two USB printers from the Virtual Machine. One is a UPS Thermal 2844 and the other is a FedEx LP 2844. They're pretty much identical.

The USB printers function on the host computer, but not yet on the guest OS. I have enabled the USB controller and if I click on "Filters" I do see that both printers appear as options.

If I click on Devices >> Printers in the Virtual Machine, I am given a screen which asks for drivers. I install those drivers and it seems to progress fine. However, if I go to the Printers folder in my control panel, it shows the printers as "offline"

If I click on Devices >> Printers in the Virtual Machine again, I am given an error message.

In short, I am stuck. I've been reading all day, and it seems that the steps are fine, but it still does not work.

Did you try an empty filter?

I have now, but the effect is the same. Are there any other options/ideas?

Make sure the VM has focus when plugging it the printer, if the printer shows offline, try toggling it back online.
A printer on a Host can easely be shared over tcp/ip or even net-use(d) and works much better then the usb approach.
