everytime I try to install it tells me that i need to be connected online before i can install... which makes absolutely no sense at all. Since when do I need to online to run an installer?
Don't know if this is the case but some "installers" are a program that downloads whats needed and for that to work you must be online.
Some say: "You learn as long as you live".
My way: "You live as long as you learn".

Oh - did I misunderstand the OP? I was assuming a permanent connection.

Quasar: were you disconnecting the host from the internet before installing? If that is the case then what baf says is almost certainly correct.

No, I was connected online, because I downloaded the files. And I ended up getting them all to work except for realplayer, which is still giving me that message(I edited the last post I think). But that's okay, I've decided that I do not want realplayer in my VM anyway. But in case this happens again, what would cause that? I only just now added myself to the Vbox user group. Thought I did it already, did then I checked it was not checked. So I'll see if that helped. If it happens again, I'll say something.

I do have a few more questions though(bet your getting sick of me and my questions, huh? Sorry...).

One: A big reason I'm running VB is so that I can have full access to my lexmark printer, which is not linux friendly. I'm too cheap to buy another and I do like this printer. But I can't detect it in VB, nor any other USB device for that matter. I've seen some instructables on how to fix it... but I don't know which one to go with. Even after adding myself to vbox users, I still can't use any USBs.

Two(this is a three parter): Is it necessary to login as root to get full access? I tried that, but saw no VMs listed. Is there a way to make my VM show up there so I don't have to install twice? Also, when I checked my name in vbox users I saw "root" there to. Should I check that or leave it alone?

You profile indicates that you are using the OSE version of VirtualBox.

The OSE version does not support USB. Only the PUEL version does.

Alright... uninstalled the OSE version, installed PUEL version...

edit: nevermind. Its picking up the USBs now. I just had to create a new account is all. I can use my printer now... just not in color. Could be my cartridge though.
