Today I've had an automatic update on Ubuntu 8.10 and after this when I'm trying to start VirtualBox I'm getting this error:
VirtualBox - Error in sublibOsInit
VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_ACCESSIBLE (rc=-1909)
And it suggest me to run /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
Which I've did with sudo, but it have not changed anything. And I have DKMS installed, I've checked in synaptic package manager.
It might be because I've recently installed 3.0.4 version then because there was no network I've installed 2.0 back, but may be vboxdrv is from 3.0.4? How can I change it? Or what can I do to run VirtualBox again?
VirtualBox doesn't start after an automatic update

Did you install the older version over the new one?
Can you uninstall VBox and then install the version that you want to use?
I did a VB down grade of VBox on Ubuntu and uninstalled first and had no problems.

I would like to upgrade to 3.0.4 but when I did it last time it didn't have network connection is there a fix for it now?

Re: VirtualBox doesn't start after an automatic update
My experience with things not working properly when upgrading is sometimes things goes haywire. By uninstalling before you install the new version you eliminate this problem for the most part.I would like to upgrade to 3.0.4 but when I did it last time it didn't have network connection is there a fix for it now?
I have version 3.0.4 on Windows and Linux PC's ant they all have network access.

Re: VirtualBox doesn't start after an automatic update
Have it worked well with VM created in 2.* and then upgraded to 3.0.4? By the way, what are the advantages of 3.0.4 you like? (Now my only reason to upgrade is the nagging pop-up telling me that there is an upgrade)Perryg wrote:My experience with things not working properly when upgrading is sometimes things goes haywire. Re: VirtualBox doesn't start after an automatic update
You can turn the update notification off in the preferences under the program GUI, File, Preference, update. Or you can set it to check at different times.
I really don't use any of the new features, but bug fixes and improvements are another reason to upgrade. Go to http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Changelog and you can see what has changed and been fixed.

Re: VirtualBox doesn't start after an automatic update
Thank you, I've upgrade to 3.0.4 and this time everything is ok. Isn't there a way of checking it, may be a checksum so that it will self-check and see if something must be reinstalled.Perryg wrote:You can turn the update notification off in the preferences under the program GUI, File, Preference, update.
