WindowsXP guest will crash when using USB dongle

Post by zappa »

I'm running a Windows XP guest under Gentoo Linux, which seem to work fine except for the one feature that I really need, the ability to run software which require a USB dongle. The guest will simply crash whenever I try to run the command:

lmutil lmhostid -flexid

I can see the Aladdin HASP Key and the Aladdin USB Key under Universal Serial Bus controllers in the Device Manager in Windows XP. But when I access it, using the above command or try to run the software the guest OS will crash. This is VirtualBox version 3.0.4 r50677 under Gentoo Linux (x86_x64 2.6.29-gentoo-r5)

Thank you for your suggestion. I unchecked the 2.0 USB mode. This made the lmhostid command work, but unfortunately the VM will still crash each time I try to launch the application.

You'd have to look into logs to see whats crashing, ea. eventlog, vbox logs.

I'll try to see what I can find. But Windows XP seem to be aware of the crash on the next restart asking if I want to report the error. Then it claims that my BIOS might be too old?!
