BSOD after closing machine

I can run virtual machines fine but once I tell them to close I get a BSOD in Vista.
Is there a way to prevent this? It has corrupt some of my files while they were being accessed.
I have never experienced a kernel panic in linux after closing machines, so It seems to be a windows bug exclusively.
I would simply use Linux as my Host OS 100% but I require Windows as the host for other reasons (games)
