I am running VirtualBox 3.04 (installed from the repo) on an Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64 host. The guests (also Ubuntu 9.04), which are all text only (ie no X installation) run fine and once set up I can ssh into them. However, I am struggling with RDP access to the guests, mainly because of problems with the various Mac OS X RDP clients I have tried.
First of all I tried Apple Remote Desktop. That won't connect at all. A window pops up but so quickly that I cannot see anything in it at all.
Then I tried MS Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac 2. This is much better in that it does connect and generally works with text only guests. However, it doesn't always relay keypresses properly, particularly uppercase letters. It also seems to have problems sizing the window properly so when I tried to install an Ubuntu desktop distro (ie including X) it cuts off the bottom of the screen so I cannot see the buttons although this can be adjusted manually. In addition, the location of the guest mouse pointer and the mouse pointer on the Mac, are often not the same. [edit: I subsequently found out that this is not the fault of the client and is fixed by installing Guest Additions.] These faults make it pretty difficult to use as I am sure you can imagine. I had serious trouble diagnosing a failure to login over ssh until I realised that, when I set the password using the RDP client, it had ignored the last character due to the failure to relay the uppercase letter.
Then I tried CoRD. All this does is crash as soon as I try to connect - great.
Lastly I tried TSclientX. This also sort of works but is hideously ugly and unsupported.
I am particularly disappointed that Apple Remote Desktop doesn't work. It's expensive and works extremely well connecting to another Mac.
Can other Mac OS X (Leopard in my case) users let me know what their experiences have been and suggest a good RDP client that works properly.
Recommendations for Mac OS X RDP Client
Re: Recommendations for Mac OS X RDP Client
Why do you have to RDP into a text based install?

Re: Recommendations for Mac OS X RDP Client
During installation, it's the only way of controlling the installation. Once the installation has finished and ssh is running I don't need RDP.
However, I also wanted to run one VM with a GUI and RDP is clearly useful there. I should be able to login remotely using X but again, not during installation.

Re: Recommendations for Mac OS X RDP Client
I'm also looking for a recomendation on OS X RDP Client.
I've just found Cord on google... http://cord.sourceforge.net/
I'll do some tests and report here later...
Edit: I tried both Cord and TSclientX (http://desktopecho.com/tsclientx/) and both crashes uppon connection. Any Ideas?
