Installing on Ubuntu 9.0.4

Post by ssgmike »

i downloaded the ubuntu 9.0.4 .deb file from here, when I double click it to install is errors and says:

"Error dependancy is not satisfiable: libcurl3 (>=7.16.2-1)

My version of Libcurl3 is 7.18

does this mean I need an older version of libcurl3?

How do I resolve this dependency issue?

Thanks in advance for your assistance

Are you sure that you have that package installed? You can install VB also from the repository if you add it to your sources.list (or create a separate .list file in /etc/apt/sources.list.d) by following the instructions on http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads. If you already have the .deb on your hard drive, you can install it from the command line too using sudo dpkg -i virtualbox-3.0.4*.deb, and after that, if any error is encountered, run sudo apt-get install -f to fix broken dependencies.

According to synaptic it is installed, when you search for it in synaptic it has check marks in its radial boxes, but according to the installer program the version seems to be to high.

Is there any way to roll that file back to an earlier version and if I did would it hurt anything?

I will try to install it using command line tomarrow when I get to work and then I will get back to you to let you know how it worked.

Thanks again for your help.
