[Solved] No VirtualBoxGuestAdditions.

Post by gfheiche »

I cannot install VirtualBoxGuestAdditions, because I don’t have the VBoxGuestAdditions.iso file.

Windows 7 Ultimate is the host and the guest is Windows Vista Home Premium. The installation was first via VB3.0.4-50677 , but I had to uninstall it, since the computer crashed repeatedly. Now I use Virtual Box 2.2.2-46594. It is working fine. But, I would like to install also the VirtualBoxGuestAdditions, so that I can use UBS flash and shared folders. However, nothing happens when clicking Device/Install Guest Edition. A search of the host computer for VBoxGuestAdditions.iso gives zero results.

TIA gfheiche

Click on device and then unmount CD then click on install guest additions.

Did it, clicked on device and then unmounted CD then clicked on install guest additions.
Still, nothing happens.
Should there not be an VBoxGuestAdditions.iso file? It is missing.

When you download the PUEL version and install it the guest additions are included with the download.
Now if you do not have it I would suggest that you download a new copy and then reinstall the version and follow my instructions. It should install as it was intended to unless you deleted something or the install failed for some reason.

Also if you did not uninstall the other guest additions that could be causing you a problem. Check that out as well.

Yes, I only uninstalled the program Virtual Box. This did not wipe out the virtual disk. How can I delete the virtual disk?

Which of your instruction, specifically, should I follow for the reinstallation?

Thanks gfheiche

What I would do is to have or get a install from http://Virtualbox.org that you want to use
Remove the guest additions and then close the guest.
Install again and select repair if available and install if not.
Reboot the computer and then start the guest VM.
Then install the guest additions for the current version by clicking on the devices tab (make sure that the CD is unmounted) and click on install guest additions.
If this does not work then you will need to mount the guest additions from your home directory/.virtualbox/
Example: your login name is say tom.
directory would be c:\users\tom\.virtualbox\VBoxGuestAdditions.iso
