I Need help installing VB guest additions my host OS is Sabayon 4.2 my guest OS is windows XP. I have virtual box installed and running and I have windows XP installed and running. the problem is the video driver for windows when I go into device manager there is no video driver thus I have no 3D acceleration. I have the guest addition module loaded thru Sulphur.

the way I understand it I need to get the guest addition running to solve this problem but I do not know where to start.

Start the guest then in the upper left section of the guest window click devices and then install guest additions.
If nothing happens then click devices, unmount CD and then, click install guest additions.

perryg, thanks so much that worked flawlessly, My drivers are now all loaded thanks!

One more question? when I start a game like polar bowler it still says no 3d acceleration even after guest additions installed and reboot of windows. how do I fix this problem. I have checked the box in "settings" - "display" - "enable 3D acceleration"

Thanks again for your help!

Mike

3D acceleration depends on the capabilities of the Host. If your Host graphics card has poor performance, or the driver for it doesn't support OpenGL (like onboard Intel cards except the most recent ones), it won't work on the Guest.

Also, when installing the Guest Additions in an XP guest, it is best to boot XP in Safe Mode. Otherwise, when VB tries to install its own DirectX DLLs for 3d acceleration, XP will silently replace them with the original DLLs.
