Newbie question VB on a separate primary partition

Post by nomnex »

Hi,

XP Pro sp3, 2 primary partitions 10GB each (C: - System)/(D: - Data)

I want to install Ubuntu in a VB on D:\ since I am short in space in C:

There is no option to select another partition than the system partition when I create a VB (by design) using the wizard.

Is there an easy workaround? I don't have an application to change my system partition size, but the limited disk management tool in XP.

Thanks in advance.

Use Virtual Media Manager then create new HD in second partition (D:). For best results, change "VirtualBox - Settings | Default Hard Folder" to a folder in D:. Then reconfigure your configuration for a specific guest to add the second HD. Then do the normal thing in Ubuntu when adding new HD.

During the new VM wizard, you get the question to create a new VDI file. There you can already select a different location. Changing the global location like Techno said is a lot better to do before creating a VM.
