[Solved] Unable to get XP connected (confused at documents)

I am running Ubuntu-server (with xubuntu-desktop) 9.04 host and Windows XP Professional guest on Dell PowerEdge 1750.

I am trying to assign 10.182.15.40 (ubuntuxp) to Windows XP accessible from network (Spiceworks).

I have been working on this for a week to no avail, and here is the technical specifications that I work on so far:

Set the network type to bridged in virtualbox if you want it as a part of your real network.
Host-only means that only the host and guest can communicate with each other.

Changed from Host-only to Bridged.

Booted into Windows XP Pro, network is still inaccessible.

Ok, I reconfigured the virtualbox to use virbr0, windows XP is now able to get connected.

But network still can't see it.

Ok, Windows XP is connected to the network, I used Ubuntu SQUID server to catch what IP address Windows XP is using, SQUID logger shows that it used host's IP address (10.182.15.30) instead of guest's IP address (10.182.15.40).

Ok. I give up. I am enabling eth1 (ubuntu) to dedicate it to Windows XP Pro guest, where is the link for this? I am running Ubuntu-server 9.04.

Try bridging eth0 instead of virbr0, and what is that?
plus after starting the guest how does output of ifconfig -a look on the host

I don't know where virbr0 came from. Must have been with br0 when I tried to create a bridge in commandline earlier.

I changed to eth0, Windows XP can't get connected to the network now.

Try doing
ifconfig eth0 -promisc
ifconfig eth0 promisc
And see if that helps
after that in the guest do ipconfig /renew

executed 2 promisc lines on ubuntu host, then tried to ipconfig /renew on guest -- error:

An error occured while renewing interface Local Area connection 3 : unable to contact your DHCP server.  Request has timed out.
