Old Dos program needs serial port, on Jaunty host, XP guest

Post by mhvinton »

Hey I am trying to program an icom mobile radio using a Prolific USB serial cable. My understanding is this cable acts like an RS-232 cable for the program and outputs via USB. It came with a nifty XP driver and everything(driver is listed under LPT1 and COM in the device manager). This DOS program keeps telling me that the RS-232 port is unavailable. Do I need to enable a virtual serial port in the XP guest? Do I need to go on the host side and specify a pipe? I tried messing with that and it confused the hell out of me.

I can transfer from a program that thinks it's outputting to an RS-232 port when it's really going to this USB-serial cable right?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
