Hi All,
I'm new to virtualbox. I have Virtualbox 3.0.2 installed on windows xp host and Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 (OEL5) as guest. OEL5 falls under Linux 2.6 kernel. I presently have the default ip 10.0.2.15 assigned to OEL5 guest with internet working properly. I have been trying to assign 192.168.2.12 to OEL5 and make it as one of my database servers. I would also want to have internet working after the ip change. I have been looking around for documentation regarding bridged network on 3.0.2 but in vain. I have firewall disabled on both windows and OEL5.

Default settings:
OEL5 -> setting -> Network -> adapater 1 is enabled(adapters 2, 3 and 4 are disabled)
adapter type: pcnet-fast III (Am79C973)
attached to: NAT
name: disabled

My actions to setup bridged network are as follows:
adapter type: pcnet-fast III (Am79C973)
attached to: Bridged adapter
name: options->1) broadcom intergrated controller
2) Intel wireless
3) virtualbox host only ethernet adapter

After 2 days of search, I have been forced to ask the group for help.

Hi All,
I have the setup to be working other than for static ip part.

My settings:
adapter type: pcnet-fast III (Am79C973)
attached to: Bridged adapter
name: choose-> Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection

It works fine. I got ip assigned by my router with internet connection working. The ip assigned was 192.168.2.2. When I tried to assign static ip, the internet connection does not work. Please help.

Hi All,
The issue is fixed. Internet was not working because primary DNS was not set. I changed it to 192.168.2.1 and saved the configuration and it worked flawlessly. Now guest OEL5 static ip is 192.168.2.15 and host win xp ip is 192.168.2.11. I also have win xp host firewall ON and internet still works in OEL5. Hope this helps someone.
