Wifi is not visible in Backtrack4 on VB

Post by tommy_mm »

I have installed VB on Windows XP. I use BackTRack 4 OS in VB and my wifi does not work. I dont have any problems with LAN connection.
See VB configuration in attached file.
My wifi card is Atheros AR5006EG. Used linux kernel kernel: 2.6.29.4
Does anyone know how to solve that issue?

Code: Select all

output form iwconfig

lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

eth1 no wireless extensions.

Code: Select all

output from lsmod

Wifi in Guest? that will never work as such because the wifi link on the Host is emulated for the Guest as a fixed adapter. Wifi on the Host? try reinstalling VBox and select repair option.

I use BackTrack linux as guest OS. Do you mean that I can not use wifi network in guest OS i VB? Shouldn't be wifi available the same way as LAN connection?
What is than the option, which can be used to have wifi card as bridged adapter in VB setup for ? (used as it can be seen on attached picture)

The bridge is used to connect the virtual adapter to the same Network the host is connected to. So, if your wifi is connected to the home network, it will appear as the guest is at that same network.

As vbox4me2 pointed you will NEVER (as of 3.0.2) see, on the guest, a wifi card. Simply there is no way to do it.

Thank you for the answers, now I understand the reason I couldn't see wifi card.
Does it mean that I can not use commands in linux which are related to wlan and require specify interface e.g. airodump-ng wlan0 ?
I think it is possible in wmware.
