Normally I'm not a fan of those bloated PC Games you see everywhere, which is why I run Linux with Windows guest for the few things I need that for. Recently though, I've been wanting to try out The Sims 2.
I ran through a check at http://www.srtest.com and found that the VM (or rather, my machine entirely) passed in all aspects except for video. Apparently it needs 3D Acceleration, which I turned on but still comes up as a no, and Hardware Transform and Lighting, which came up a no for me.
My question is, is it possible to have these features on a VM? I want to know if I'll even be able to get this to work before I run off and buy a new Video Card.

Install the GA for the Guest, see the FAQ and the Manual.

That GA? So by this note I should be fine to just replace my GFX card right?
Sorry if I'm sounding strange or anything. I just don't want to go drop $100 on video card for the game, $60 for the game, and then find out I still can't run the game.

v2.2.2? upgrade to Vbox 3.0.2 and the GA as well, 3d/directx support should be much better.

Alright, upgraded the program, reinstalled GA (with the experimental Direct3D stuff). So if I'm understanding everything right, I should be ready for a new card. Thanks!

Re: PC Gaming and Virtual Box
Running the game in WINE probably works better.

Re: PC Gaming and Virtual Box
I've looked into that. The Sims 2 doesn't run under WINE. So that's not an option.
