Can't install Compiz Fusion on a Debian VB

Post by pedro3005 »

I installed Debian on a Virtual Box (HOST is Ubuntu 9.04). It went fine, except that I can't seem to install Compiz Fusion and get it to work properly. I ran

Code: Select all

apt-get install compiz compizconfig-settings-manager compiz-fusion-plugins-main
I configured it to my needs, but they just won't work.
So I went to fusion-icon and selected Compiz on Window Manager, and no more Window Decoration (the bars) appear.
Messing with Xorg.conf and following http://wiki.debian.org/Compiz , my Xorg.conf ended up like this:

Code: Select all

# xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

Section "Extensions"
        Option "Composite" "enable"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier	"Configured Mouse"
    Driver "vboxmouse"
    Option "CorePointer"
EndSection

Section "Device"
	Identifier	"Configured Video Device"
	Driver "vboxvideo"
        Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "true"
EndSection
I rebooted, now the machine won't run a resolution above 800x600 AND still Compiz won't work. Can anyone help? Thanks :)

Did you install the guest addition from VBox?

Compiz issues are not a part of this forum. The bars that disappear mean that you don't have a valid Window Decorator. Compiz-Fusion uses Emerald as default, so install that one too. And you forgot compiz-core too, if it didn't install through dependency checks.
