USB Mouse support on Guest OS.

Hello,
I've recently started using VirtualBox in order to run a Window XP guest on my Windows7 system for certain work needs and have been very pleased with how well everything worked for the most part.
However, I haven't been able to get my mouse to be recognized as a USB mouse inside the guest in order to have access to the functionality of all buttons, at the moment the system regards it as a standard 3 button mouse. If I allocate the USB device (of the mouse) to the guest system it will correctly identify the mouse but it also makes it completely unavailable to the host, which is of course a considerable problem.
Is there a way to get my mouse to be identified correctly inside the guest and still be fully available to both host and guest?
Thanks in advance.
