Re: Mac OS X guest
While my Leopard can boot up in VB 3.1.6, I have tried to install SL on a clean hard disk.
However, Leopard crashes while I tried to install the chameloen boot loader.....
Well, I know from Trinitron that he is going to provide the patch for VB3.1.6. Perhaps we should wait then....

Re: Mac OS X guest
3.1.6 is useless as older versions.
I've tried to OSE and PUEL. They do not work, so I reinstalled 3.1.51_OSE r26899 again and my SL vdi works fine, network out of the box, mouse integration, 2 CPU's. Well, the sound sucks but it's not important for me.
i've looked in the 3.1.51's source files and noticed that only SSSE3 was enabled, and ACPI was 0x11.
I've tried to build my own 3.1.6 OSE, but I didnt get it to work - kernel driver was not accessible.
So I gues for SL to work we need SSSE3 to be enabled in VB.

Re: Mac OS X guest
have you seen this?
It's a vmware accellerated graphic driver for osx.
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index. ... 8962&st=40
I don't have the programming knowledge needed to make a graphic driver, but this would be a very nice challenge..
i think with this osx would actually be useable as a guest! (drag and drop support would be nice as well)

Furthermore
I don't know Oracle's future plans for OS X GA but...
Would someone with skills develop Virtualbox tailormade drivers?

Re: Mac OS X guest
Any one know how to make the host and guest "talk" to each other?
I know VB does some kind of NAT, but I can't seem to make the 2 talk to each other.
In the Finder on the host, the guest shows up (via Bonjour) but i can't connect to it. I get "Connection failed". The guest sees nothing.
Is there a way to make it work?
Who knows how smart the NAT is of Virtualbox?

Re: Mac OS X guest
I've read through part of these posts and I'm still unclear on the status of Mac OS X as a guest host. It looks like people are getting it to work but are doing so on Windows and using non-pure Mac OS X?
I'd like to use Virtual Box on my Mac Pro as a sandbox for running applications I may not be sure about. Is this possible and/or reasonable? I would think the virtual system would provide good security.
Will there be an issue running Mac OS X guest on a Mac OS X host?
Thanks.

Re: Mac OS X guest
Well all I can tell is: I'm also on a Mac and wanted to do exactly the same for the same reason. I didn't manage to make it work - neither on latest OSE nor PUEL versions. Using a hacked version of OS X *or* VirtualBox is not acceptable to me. I guess we still have to wait until they release the 3.2 beta.kcramer wrote:I've read through part of these posts and I'm still unclear on the status of Mac OS X as a guest host. Re: Mac OS X guest
Yes, Installing Mac OS X as guest on X86 VirtualBox is possible by following method.
It worked well for me, just for testing purpose.

Re: Mac OS X guest
I tried to install Snow Leopard in a FreeBSD guest on Mac OS X 10.6.3 on a Mac Pro but it hangs during the install. Enabling EFI allows it to boot. It shows "Loading drivers..." and after a bit just hangs.

Re: Mac OS X guest
If it hangs on start up screen, then check the hardware virtualization. It should be enabled. I have updated my post with detailed steps to install Mac OS X as guest on VirtualBox. Its here…

Re: Mac OS X guest
Hi, I am trying to run Mac OS X in VB. I am having problems and i think i know why. I was told to have enabled Nesting Paging in the System -> Acceleration tab. It is checked. but when I start the machine, the little button with the V on it shows that Nesting Paging is disabled. Does that mean my Computer doee not support it or what? I am using a Dell XPS 420
