Post by ihsmith »

So, I'm having the worst time trying to get a virtual machine to work. Now, please, someone tell me how to get this thing to work.

Could not load the settings file '/home/ivan/.VirtualBox/VirtualBox.xml'.
Cannot convert settings from version '1.7-linux'.
The source version is not supported.

Result Code:
VBOX_E_XML_ERROR (0x80BB000A)
Component:
VirtualBox
Interface:
IVirtualBox {339abca2-f47a-4302-87f5-7bc324e6bbde}

At the very least, what this means...

Sun xVM VirtualBox SDL GUI version 2.1.4_OSE
(C) 2005-2009 Sun Microsystems, Inc.
All rights reserved.
Failed to create VirtualBox object! Error info:
Could not load the settings file '/home/ivan/.VirtualBox/VirtualBox.xml'.
Cannot convert settings from version '1.7-linux'.
The source version is not supported
(component VirtualBox).

The application will now terminate.

You know what? I have been reading off and on the last few days about this and all I came up with that truly made since to me was to uninstall what you have and install the version direct from VirtualBox, and most even suggest that you install the PUEL version so you have the extra components. Something to consider. Anyway depending on where you get the program may have a baring on if it will work or not.
Myself I put virtualbox in as a third party in the sources list and installed the key (all instructions are on the virtualbox site once you select Linux). I never have a problem!

Something to consider.
