Should I use 64-bit guests on my 64-bit host?
I have Vista 64-bit SP2 running on a Core 2 Quad with 8 GB of RAM with plenty of disk space for a host. Is it better to go with a 64-bit guest or a 32-bit guest? Video card is a ATI Radeon HD 3450.

yes i found that 64-on-64 is a fair bit faster than 32-bit guests on a 64-bit host (linux in my case) especially with things like compilation, bit of a shock to me as i've been using 32-bit guests mainly for reasons of portability (i can run them on my 32-bit hosts too). Will Pittenger wrote:I have Vista 64-bit SP2 running on a Core 2 Quad with 8 GB of RAM with plenty of disk space for a host. Until the demand on the host is taken into account. I normally have DreamScene and two docks running.sej7278 wrote:video card is irrelevant. Will Pittenger wrote:Video card is a ATI Radeon HD 3450.

Then still, video card is irrelevant, as the Guest won't see it anyway. Are you sure that you can run 64 bit Guests? Check the manual or VirtualBox FAQ for the requirements. Your CPU might very well be capable of VT-x, but your motherboard still needs to support that feature, and you have to have it turned on.
