Cannot start virtualbox 3xx on debian sid

Post by mrpraline »

Hi,

I used to run the non-free version of Virtualbox on my system without problems. However whenever I try run the new 3.x series it just won't start. I get:
~$ VirtualBox
VirtualBox: supR3HardenedMainGetTrustedMain: dlopen("/usr/lib/virtualbox/VirtualBox.so",) failed: /usr/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0: undefined symbol: mouse_seteventhandler
Is there any way to fix this?

I have installed from deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian lenny non-free. I don't see any errors during installation.

Some info about my system:

Debian Release: squeeze/sid
APT prefers unstable
APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing')
Architecture: i386 (i686)

Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core)
Locale: LANG=nl_NL.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=nl_NL.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8)
Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash

Thanks,
Gerrit jan.

@mrpraline,
Sorry I do not have Squeeze as Host yet, but I do see problem areas running it as guest and all indications are that it is a compatibility issues, which I am sure Debian & Sun will get worked out.
You might try Version 2.2.4 of VBox and see if this will work for you. It was the last Rock Solid version of Vbox that did not have all of the experimental areas.
Such are the problems with bleeding edge, right?

Unfortunately the problems seem to be a little bit deeper than that. I purged 3.0 and reverted to 2.2 but the issue is still there...
