[Solved] Bridged networking - can't ping guest IP from host

Post by ukchucktown »

My environment is Ubuntu 9.04 host, Vista guest. I configured bridged networking to eth0 in the VM. I'm behind a router, eth0 has an address of 192.168.0.3. The router is 192.168.0.1. The guest OS starts and receives address 192.168.0.4. I'm able to ping eth0 and the router from the Vista guest but I can't ping the guest from the Linux host. I'm also able to access the Internet from the guest, the only issue I'm experiencing is connectivity from the host to the guest. Maybe I missed something. Are there any additional steps necessary for two-way communication between a Linux host and Windows guest?

Some say: "You learn as long as you live".
My way: "You live as long as you learn".

I feel stupid now. I thought I had turned off the firewall. That did it.
