8-bit color on Windows 7 RC
I've been running windows 7RC for sometime now with no major issues. The other day I started the VMachine to do some updating and work when I got an unpleasant surprise, I only get the horrendous 8-bit color. When I checked the settings I was surprised to see the setting were not changed. Setting of 256 color and, 1024*768 resolution. what I did notice was it detects a "Generic Non-PnP Monitor on VirtualBox Graphics Adapter". Has anyone else encounter this problem? If so any suggestions? The guest OS is up to date and I'm running this on VB 3.0.2. Setting on VBox for Windows 7 display : Virtual memory: 128 MB, 3D Acceleration: Enabled, and Remote Display Server: Disabled.

Are the guest additions installed?
Set the video memory to 64 Meg.

Yes guest additions are installed. When the 'Starting Windows' screen comes up it's in full colors. Even after changing the video memory to 64mb, I still get the same results.

Re: 8-bit color on Windows 7 RC
I saw this one time when Window 7 was in beta.
I had to go into the Guest personalization of Windows 7 and manually set the color depth which fixed it, but I have not seen it since.
Also it could be an issue with version 3.0.X of Vbox and that it requires you to install the guest additions in safe mode to get
DirectX to work. Give the safe mode a try if manually setting the color depth does not work.

Re: 8-bit color on Windows 7 RC
Many thanks Perry. I had to change the color settings, but couldn't see since it was in 8-bit color. Once again many thanks.
