[Solved] Cannat resize the guest Apps Full Screem Tiny Guest

Post by Sands »

Hi Guys.

I cannot make the guest window larger. Its static in size. I can make the VM window any size by dragging the lower right corner up to full screen- but guest app window remains small.

I added guest additions. I have auto resize window on.

Session information/ Runtime Apps, says Guest Additions not detected and screen resolution is 640 x 480.

I rerset and try adding guest additions but no joy!

Where may i change screen resolution?

I downloaded and searched in the manual as well and I cannot find it.

I am running 3.0.2 on a win7 64 bit OS build 7232
The Guest app is XP Sp3

Thank you for any suggestions that i can try.

Your statement means that the guest additions are not installed.
Click on the devices tab on the guest, then click unmount the CD/DVD
Now click on install guest additions again. You should actually see things happening and when they are finished reboot the guest.
Note any errors and post them here.

Tell you what instead of removing just yet. Try closing the guest (shutdown) Go into the settings and then the CD/DVD section. Take the check mark out of mount CD/DVD.
Then start the guest and click on devices and install guest additions.

Hi Perry

When I went to Settings to uncheck the mount cd/dvd- it was already unchecked.

So I checked it to try and mount guest additions.iso

Still no luck.

Then I reset.

Then I went back to settings sessions and unchecked mount cd/dvd.

Then launched a guest and tried devices install GA

Still get Guest additions not detected in the session info dialogue box.

Are you really using the OSE version are did you install the PUEL version of VirtualBox?

There is something really strange here. Lets do something else. Close all guests and shut down the VirtualBox program.
Find the install program for VirtualBox and right click the program.
Left click on run as admin. Tell the installer to repair the program then reboot.
Start the guest and then click device and install guest additions and see what happens.

I have never used VM and don't get its underlying principles!

I had no idea I needed to also complete the install in the Guest OS as well!

I launched VirtualBox then its Guest OS (I installed XP SP3). Then went to the drives section of explorer in the guest OS and found the .exe I needed to complete the install!

After using the VboxWindowsAditions.exe I received the following:

Now my Sessions Info Window says!

And guess what!

I can scale the window to any size or even full screen!

Yeah, the session info about the GA are messed up for quite some time now. You only see if they are installed, not which version you exactly have. For Windows, you see it when you hover the mouse over the tray icon, in Linux you can do a modinfo on one of the modules (e.g. vboxadd).
