Issues running MoI3d on Linpus Linux / Windows guest

Hello to all,

I am a new user of VirtualBox and find it very impressive. My main reason for installing VirtualBox is to run the 3D software Moi3D on an Acer Aspire One Netbook running Linpus Linux (Fedora 8 based I believe).

I have successfully installed the 3.0.2 version of VirtualBox for Fedora 8 and installed XP SP1 as guest. I have successfully installed the guest addon for XP.

MoI3d requires a 32-bit XP desktop. I have confirmed in XP desktop settings that resolution is 1024*600 @ 32-bit. When I run MoI3d however I get an MoI3d error which says "Incompatible Hardware" and goes on to state that resolution isn't "24bit depth with 8 bit palette".

I then did the following:
1. Confirmed that desktop is showing 1024*600 @ 32-bit in display properties
2. Ran DXDiag which shows Direct3D = enabled
3. Ran the DXDiag direct 3D tests. DX8 & DX9 tests pop up a VirtualBox message box which says "The virtual machine window is optimized to work in 32 bit color mode but the color quality of the virtual display is currently set to 16 bit. Please open the display properties dialog of the guest OS and select a 32 bit color mode, if it is available, for best possible performance of the virtual video subsystem." Checked display properties and it still says 1024*600 @ 32-bit. Despite the warnings, got spinning 3D cube for each test.

At the request of the developer of MoI3d I then:
4. Ran DXCapsViewer. Under "Adapter Formats - Depth/Stencil formats" = nil entries. All Depth/Stencil formats lists are completely empty. I believe MoI3d checks there for video capabilities and hence the error.

I reported this back to the developer of MoI who advised "Seems like multiple things going wrong - it seems to be confused internally about what color depth is on the screen and it looks like the parts of the Direct3D API that are supposed to report back information about what the device supports are busted".

So, I guess my question is, are these problems something that still needs work in VirtualBox or is there something I can do to resolve this from my end? Would it be possible to install later WineD3D (if there is one)?

Sorry for the long post. I figure too much detail is always better than not enough!
