Can't install some programs on guest Server 2003 OS

Post by devvtekk »

I am trying to install Silverlight and the SharpDevelop IDE on my Server 2003 guest OS (running on top of XP). I have been able to install Firefox and Notepad++. The error message states something like "Windows cannot access path, file, or does not have permission" (I already shut down my virtual machine so can't give the exact message). The SharpDevelop installer is a MSI if that makes a difference.

Thanks,

James

Are all of these programs installed over download?
Have you saved them to a disc and then tried to run them?
When installing are you installing as admin or standard user?
If standard user have you tried to right click the install program and left click on run as admin?

Thanks for responding.

I downloaded the programs using Firefox and then tried installing them after downloading was completed. I also downloaded them on the host machine, copied to the shared folder and then copied to the guest OS with the same result.

I have not tried saving them to a disc.

I will double check but I believe I was logged in as the Admin.

It just seems unusual that I could download Firefox, NotePad++ and MS Visual Web Developer 2008 free edition and those programs installed with no problem.
