Connect to Network Camera?

Hi all,

I run Windows XP as guest on Ubuntu host.

My new network camera has the IP 192.168.10.200.

I managed to connect from the Ubuntu host, but I need Windows XP to make the proprietary Active X interface working.

In Ubuntu Host I changed the setup like this, and it worked after a restart.
Menu -> System -> Preferences -> Network Connections

Wired Tab
mark Auth eth0
Edit

IPv4 Settings tab
Method: Manual
Address 192.168.10.100
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1

Apply

But how to connect from WinXP guest?

So far all I get is a timeout when doing RUN
ping 192.168.10.200

Thanks,
Jan

P.S.:
While writing this. I undid the changes described above to get an Internet connection again.

ime@home:~$ ifconfig

What is the connection mode? NAT, Bridged, Etc..
Also what is the ip address of Windows XP?
Are they all within the same IP Address scheme?
Do you have a router?

I try my very best:

Without the modifications I described above my setup look like this:
Laptop connected to FritzBox.
Camera connected to Fritzbox.
FritzBox connected to DSL modem for Internet Access.
Both Ubuntu host and WinXP guest have internet access.

However so far I only connected to the camera using a crossover cable and changes in Ubuntu Network Connections I described.

What is the connection mode? NAT, Bridged, Etc..
According to VB, Settings -> Network Adapter 1: "Attached to NAT."

Also what is the ip address of Windows XP?

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>ipconfig/all

Windows IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : xxx
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcast
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : Yes
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : Yes

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : AMD PCNET Family PCI Ethernet Adapte
r
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 08-00-27-4D-BE-6B
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.178.100
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.178.24

Are they all within the same IP Address scheme?
Camera is 192.168.10.200
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.178.100
However ifconfig of the host says:
inet addr:192.168.178.24
So not?

Do you have a router?
Yes, FritzBox! Fon 7170 with 4 Ethernet ports.

OK switch to bridged mode and reconfigure, or use dhcp on everything but the camera and see if you can get to it then.
