Virtualbox and Logitech 9000 pro webcam - unkown device

Post by remd »

I run Virtualbox 2.2.4 in Ubuntu 9.04, and Windows xp sp2 as guest os.
USB works fine usually, with devices like usb memory keys etc.. I just enable them from the devices menu and they appear in Windows.

Now with the Logitech 9000 pro webcam, that works ok with Ubuntu btw, it is now greyed out under the usb devices and I cannot enable it.
I also tried to start without the camera and then plug it in, it then appears under usb devices but greyed out, I cannot check it, so then Windows never sees it.

How can I make this work ?
If its not possible, are there other webcams that do work, or will it be recognized by a newer version of virtualbox ?
(Id rather continue to use apt rather than manually install, but if its the only way I'll do it .. )

Web cams for the most part were not supported until you get to version 3.0.X and not all of them work.
You should try to upgrade to the latest version 3.0.2 and see if it will work for you now.

um, I have the same webcam and it worked in Windows XP Pro SP3 guest...only problem is it won't capture audio from the mic on the webcam.

all i did was add myself to the vboxusers group in ubuntu, add the device filter in the USB EHCI section of the VM settings setup. reboot. start up the VM and it's enabled. did you already do that?
