I am having problems running virtualbox on my computer with windows vista os. I install it fine but when I go to run it, a blue screen pops up on my computer saying something about an error and I have to do turn the power off to my computer because I can not get off the screen. I am booting the guest operating system from a cd and while I don't have a lot of computer experience, my brother-in-law does and he has installed virtualbox on his computers but still can't seem to understand what is going wrong with the program or the computer. Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
JB

Re: VBox on vista
Does Vista BSOD when you start the VirtualBox program or when you try to start a guest?
We also need to know how much RAM the host has and the amount of memory that you are assigning to guest.
Plus whether your PC is 32 bit or 64 bit.

Re: VBox on vista
What is the BSOD? and have 2 gigs of RAM and assign half of it to the guest, the original memory is 512 as the default but it is expandable so it takes up how ever much it needs and my PC is a 32 bit.

Re: VBox on vista
Sorry, BSOD stand for the Microsoft Blue Screen Of Death as its called in the indusrty. I though everyone that used Windows has heard of it. The Blue screen that you say you see.
You did not tell me at what point the problem occurs. Is when you start the VirtualBox program or when you start or try to start the guest.
Your profile states that you are running OSE other version of VirtualBox. Is this correct? Where did you get the install program and was it OSE or PUEL and what is the version.

Re: VBox on vista
Sorry I have heard of that, but not often. I get the BSOD when i try to start the guest. I made a mistake on my original profile. I am running the PUEL "VirtualBox 3.0.2 for Windows hosts x86/amd64." I will have more detail on the BSOD withing a couple hours when I have access to my computer.

Thank you that will help.
The more information that you can provide the better it will be.
I seriously doubt that you can provide too much information. Remember we are here and you are there and can see it. We are trying to do this blind as they say.

Re: VBox on vista
okay, I set up a new guest. i saw i made a few mistakes on my previous one. but now instead of a BSOD my computer just shuts down and restarts. When i start the guest it gives the normal prompt about hitting ctrl to be able to take the pointer out of the virtual box and then another screen prompts about choosing a language for ubuntu and if i have time before my computer restarts, i choose english, but my computer still restarts. You said that i couldn't give you too much info so i am going to give you all the settings of my guest. If there is anything else you need to know, just ask.

Re: VBox on vista
OK here is what I would like for you to do.
Lets install a new VM and this time leave everything at default except the CD image which you need to select, and turn off (uncheck VT-x/AMD-v).
See if it will install then. Anything that would need to be changed after that can be changed later.
