Vista64

Hi,

I installed VB on my Vista64 Home Premium box. Trying to install WinXP in this environment as a guest results in a blu screen (guest) briefly into the install. Is this not supported (yet)?

Ofcourse it is supported, we need the bsod message details and the VM settings in order to help. See also the Forum Posting Guide

Sorry, I wanted to make sure this was supported altogether before posting details. I have to transcribe the text since I cannot cut and paste:

It is prefaced by the usual BSOD message 'A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down ...'.

Disable all VM options you don't need at start like sound, 3d, usb and such, set ram to 1024.

I disabled all of the above plus network with the same results. Should I make changes to the hardware acceleration? This is a quadcore Phenom with 8GB of memory. This is Vista 64 Home Premium (legitimate, if the question should arise). I have no other problems with the box.

Try making an ISO from the CD and mount that, can also be a faulty (Host) ram module or a faulty cd.

Yes, same results. No, CD is fine. RAM should be fine, ran a memory test. Plus the box runs all sorts of things without problems, some very CPU and memory intensive (video/graphics).

Of course not, this is early on during the installation. There is no such thing as safe mode, yet. Windows cannot install in 'Safe Mode'.

Did you try making an ISO and mount it? are you sure vt-x is disabled (check the xml file)? smp disabled? you could try vbox 2.1.4 or 2.2.4

Previous VB versions never worked with Vista64 for me. I must say (in shame) that I gave up on it and dived into VMWare - which worked just fine...
