VB with VDI on a NFS share

Greetings,
Has anyone deployed VB in a lab where the virtual disks (read-only) are on a NFS share ?

can't see readonly working at all.
and nfs share implies multiple users are going to access them, which also isn't going to work.

Couldn't I use "VBoxManage modifyhd filename --type immutable" to make the hd readonly and allow users to store snapshots in their home directories ?
What I had in mind was:
admin: VBoxManage modifyhd <filename> --type immutable
user: VBoxManage registervm <filename>
user: VBoxmanage --startvm <name>

It might work, but your best bet is to try it out and see what happens.
